I've never seen anyone mention it, but I was wondering if anyone's played this Japanese vs. Ami jungle/airfield scenario from Recon By Fire? It looks very interesting, although I like the looks of the American OB. Anyone have any experience with it? Anyone want to prove me wrong on VASL?

I have played it (don't know the opponent - he had the scenario). It was very fun - airfields in a scenario almost guarantee fun if the scenario is not goofed by the designer. :-)

I remember that I guided my IJA to victory (very narrow). US has good FP but brittle morale IIRC. A mad Banzai in the midgame cost me a lot of troops but broke the spine of the US that couldn't rout a couple of key squads and lost that cal .50 (or was it a normal HMG? I cannot really remember this). After that it was a chaotic struggle and the US had to do active things with low ML troops. Here the previous Banzai paid off, as I reduced some of the US troopers.

I remember that the IJA crap tanks played a major role. They should not be sacrificed, but used to unnerve the US by going around and threaten to do nasty things. IIRC the US has some Baz but no other AT weapons and no AFV at all.

I liked that one, and I think the balance is OK. OTOH the scenario was so fun that balance was a minor issue.
