Hey all,

I've never seen anyone mention it, but I was wondering if anyone's played this Japanese vs. Ami jungle/airfield scenario from Recon By Fire? It looks very interesting, although I like the looks of the American OB. Anyone have any experience with it? Anyone want to prove me wrong on VASL?

Or ftf for you Dave :)

Jim Torkelson and I played it at the last BAASL meeting. My Japanese took a pounding getting to the line of jungle hexes on board 14. But Jim set up his bazookas too far forward.

One squad went berserk and charged with its bazooka. It took a *347 with it though. The others broke trying to fall back towards the airfield -- I had gotten two tanks behind the airfield.

On turn 5 I noticed he had no bazookas and all his units were in only four hexes (three buildings and a foxhole on the runway). So I went for the kill; freeze all four hexes with tanks and move up the armor. He lost four squads for failure to rout in that RtPh alone! By the time the dust had settled I was a CVP or two over the limit.

We both came to the conclusion that the American player needs to keep one bazooka back near the center of the runway to prevent being inundated by tanks. I also used the extreme west edge of board 37 -- it's a quick path to board 14 and you can flank the US position in the "line of jungle" by turn 2.
